Kenneth Spencer tell us that the pipe organ is one of the most ancient of all musical instruments: for example it is some two millennia older than the pianoforte. It has a long history of development from the ancient Hydraulis to the massive instrument which it sometimes is today, from about 12 pipes in that distant past, to more than 33,000 pipes in the present.
This presentation explains how "The King of Instruments" (WA Mozart) came to its present state from such simple beginnings.
Kenneth Spencer has designed and constructed two instances of the most recent forms of organ: the "virtual Pipe Organ" which uses complete computer models of real, actual, pipe organs to reproduce almost exactly the features, sounds and acoustics of real organs from all over the world.
